Chocolate Angry Birds

This week I am elbow-deep in modeling chocolate, working on lots of little figures for a friend’s graduation cake. I love modeling chocolate because it makes me feel like a kid again. My mom used to make me homemade play dough when I was little and I would sit at the table for hours, creating miniature sculptures. I guess I never grew out of that love, and nowadays my miniature sculptures taste way better than they did when I was a kid!

I will share the graduation creations with you next week, after I finish the cake. But for now, here are a few pictures of some modeling chocolate Angry Birds that I made for another friend a few weeks ago. She lives in another state and wanted to throw a very special Angry Birds themed party for her son so I offered to make her some chocolate birds that she could use to decorate his cake. She wanted enough birds for all the kids to each get one and one Mighty Eagle just for her son, since that is his favorite bird.

To be honest, I knew very little about Angry Birds. I have purposely never played it because I understand it is quite addicting. She was very helpful by sending me lots of pictures to work from. Here is what I came up with.

The red birds:

The yellow birds:

The black birds:

My favorite, the pigs:

The birthday boy’s favorite, the Mighty Eagle:

Oh, and it wouldn’t be Angry Birds without the sling:

These guys really are angry.

One final look at the whole gang:

Unfortunately, the journey through the postal system was a little rough. I definitely need to learn some better skills for shipping fragile, edible items. But, my friend was able to repair most of the broken pieces and the cake was a hit. The thing that made my day was when she sent me a video of all the kids excitedly screaming out which bird they wanted with their slice of cake. That is the reason that kids cakes will always be my favorites. There is nothing like seeing the excitement on a child’s face when you bring them a sweet, edible version of their favorite character.

Well, I better get back to work. The graduation party is going to be here before I know it.
Until next time, God bless and Sweet Dreams.
