For ultimate freshness and extended life of yeast, store it in the freezer.
All yeast has a “Best Before” date as it starts to loose quality over time and its texture, color, and flavor can change. To extend its freshness way beyond that “Best Before” date, even years beyond, store it in an air tight jar or sealed top plastic bag in the freezer. When ready to use just scoop out the amount you need and return to the freezer.
It is recommended to allow the yeast to come to room temperature for about 30 minutes before using but I have found that it works just fine to use it right away. This is an especially helpful tip if you buy your yeast in bulk.
